Chimney Removal Services in Metro Vancouver
Not every chimney problem needs to be repaired. Sometimes the right call is to take it down. Whether you're dealing with a deteriorating chimney you don't use, reclaiming interior space during a renovation, or dealing with a chimney that's pulling away from the house, we'll assess the situation and give you a straightforward recommendation.
Types of Chimney Removals
Drop and Cap
The chimney is taken down to just above roof level and finished with a custom sheet metal pan. This is the most cost-effective option for homeowners who want to stop deterioration and leaks without a full rebuild or complete removal. Most jobs take one to one-and-a-half days.
Drop and Roof Over
The chimney is taken down below roof level, and the opening is framed and roofed over so it blends completely with the roofline. A good choice when you want no trace of the chimney on the exterior.
Full Demolition
The entire chimney is removed to the foundation. For interior chimneys, this is most common during renovations where the homeowner wants to reclaim the space. We use poly sheeting, plywood floor protection, and extractor fans to keep dust contained and the work area clean. For exterior side chimneys, we finish the area where the chimney was (trim, soffit, siding) so the exterior looks like it always belonged that way.
Watch a Chimney Removal
In this video, we are removing a chimney from a house and Daniel is hard at work. This is something you have to be very careful with as you don't want to destroy anything. You should have drop sheets to drape all of the furniture, and drop sheet all the way around.
It's great to have a vacuum to get some of the dust in the air out. When it's done right, you do not cause any damage.
The chimney you see in the video is a double-sided chimney and we already took out the top, in through the roof. You can see the hole in the roof; out through the ceiling, and it goes right up through the attic of the house and it goes right to the outside. I leave the hole in the roof open so that some of the dust will go out the top.
When you take a chimney down inside it should be done by a professional or too much damage will be created.
Why Metro Vancouver Homeowners Call Us
Most homeowners who call us have already tried someone else. A roofer who couldn't find the source of the leak. A handyman who patched it for a season. By the time they reach us, they're not looking for another opinion, they want the problem actually fixed. We will diagnose the real problem, quote it accurately, do the work, and leave the site clean. The final bill matches the estimate. That's it.
Chimney Removal FAQs
Yes. This is important. We provide and assemble scaffold instead of you having to hire a separate company to set up scaffold. Scaffolding ensures safety for our team, for you, and your property. Some service providers work off of ladders, which is unsafe. But furthermore, scaffolding protects your yard and house since we send up all materials up the scaffold with a pulley system. You will not find us throwing bricks or debris from your roof and risking damage to your property!
A drop and cap or roof-over typically takes one to one-and-a-half days. A full demolition runs two to four days depending on the size and complexity of the chimney.
For full interior demolitions, we set up dust containment before any work begins: poly sheeting, plywood floor protection, and extractor fans to keep dust to a minimum. You’ll need to clear the work area and a path to carry debris out, but we handle the rest. The site is cleaned up completely when we’re done.
