What is Chimney Siding?

Chimney Siding refers to the process of wrapping an existing, often deteriorating, chimney structure with a new, low-maintenance exterior.

Think of it like re-siding the exterior of your house, but for your chimney. As an alternative to chimney removal or chimney rebuild, our team constructs a new, weather-resistant jacket around the existing chimney core. This typically involves using 100% waterproof materials like vinyl, durable materials like HardiPlank® (cement board) or other types of cladding.

How It Works

The old, crumbling bricks are stabilized. Then, a framework is built over the chimney, wrapped with a weather-resistant barrier if required, and finally covered with the siding material. The result is a like-new chimney that is worry free, waterproof and low-maintenance.

Is Chimney Siding Right for Your Home?

Chimney siding (also called a chimney wrap or envelope) isn't the right solution for every situation, but when it fits, it's a durable, attractive option that performs well in Vancouver's wet climate.

It tends to be a good fit when:

  • Your chimney is structurally sound, but the brick or existing exterior cladding has deteriorated, is holding moisture, or is past the point of practical repair
  • Your home has existing siding (HardiePlank, board-and-batten, cedar, etc.) and you want the chimney exterior to integrate cleanly with it
  • You're updating the look of your home and want the chimney to match the new exterior rather than stand apart from it
  • Your chimney isn't a heritage or architectural feature — it's a functional part of the home, and you want it protected and finished without drawing attention to itself

When installed correctly with proper flashing, a continuous weather barrier, and sealed seams, a chimney wrap creates a reliable, low-maintenance exterior that holds up well against rain, wind, and the freeze-thaw cycles the Lower Mainland gets every winter.

The key word is correctly. Chimney siding that's poorly flashed or improperly sealed traps moisture behind the cladding, which leads to hidden rot and structural damage that can be expensive to find and fix. The installation requires the same attention to detail as any chimney work, which is why we approach it the same way we approach everything else.

Why Metro Vancouver Homeowners Call Us

Most homeowners who call us have already tried someone else. A roofer who couldn't find the source of the leak. A handyman who patched it for a season. By the time they reach us, they're not looking for another opinion, they want the problem actually fixed. We will diagnose the real problem, quote it accurately, do the work, and leave the site clean. The final bill matches the estimate. That's it.

Chimney Siding FAQs

Yes. This is important. We provide and assemble scaffold instead of you having to hire a separate company to set up scaffold. Scaffolding ensures safety for our team, for you, and your property. Some service providers work off of ladders, which is unsafe. But furthermore, scaffolding protects your yard and house since we send up all materials up the scaffold with a pulley system. You will not find us throwing bricks or debris from your roof and risking damage to your property!

Once you’ve chosen your siding, we order it from the supplier. Lead time varies depending on what’s in stock. Once the material is in, we schedule the job and let you know. Daniel can give you a realistic timeframe at the estimate based on what’s available.

For a full chimney from ground to roofline, typically two to four days, depending on the size and the material chosen. Roof-level and up is usually one and a half to two days. We’ll give you a clear timeline when we quote the job.

We offer vinyl, HardiBoard, cedar, metal, and NovikStone, which is a premium vinyl that mimics natural stone. Most homeowners match it to the existing siding on their house. We’ll bring samples to the estimate so you can see the options before you decide.

Yes. A properly installed siding wrap, with the right flashing and custom sheet metal pans at the top and any shoulder slopes, stops water from getting in. It’s why we recommend it when a chimney is significantly deteriorated and a repair isn’t going to be enough.

Not if the chimney is masonry. The wood strapping the siding attaches to is combustible, and the required clearances for wood burning can’t be met once it’s in place. If you have a wood-burning fireplace and want to keep using it, a chimney repair or rebuild is the right path. If you’re open to alternatives, the fireplace can be converted to a gas insert, an electric insert, or decommissioned entirely. Daniel will walk you through the options at the estimate.

"professional, prompt, friendly"

"We contacted Lindbjerg Chimney Service because of leaks around our existing chimney. They came quickly and in the rain analyzed the problem, completing immediate measures to reduce the water damage. Their quotation was thorough, easily understood, and prompt — and they were on the job in a matter of a few days. The problem was exactly as they predicted, and the solution, a major new upper chimney portion, is extremely attractive. They were professional, prompt, friendly and did a great clean up. We would recommend their service to others."
